The History of Micromatic

With origins dating back to 1929, Micromatic has evolved over the decades to become a leading manufacturing and design firm for world-class rotary vane actuators and automated assembly equipment. The company has a rich history of manufacturing precision machined and honed products that serve a diverse group of customers in multiple industries throughout the globe. Micromatic has a history of growth in both product lines - the Rotac® Hyd-ro-ac® Actuator product line through acquisitions and mergers and the creation of the Micro-Precision® Automation product line.

2019

Secured contracts with one of the largest US waste haulers and with a national waste distributor for Rotac® Cart Tippers.

2017

First Micro-Precision® Automation Cobot System for vision inspection for wire harnesses and leak detection.

2016

Launch of Rotac® Cart Tipper product line.

2013

First Micro-Precision® Automation Assembly System installation for a Japanese automotive manufacturer in the USA.

2011

First Micro-Precision® Automation Assembly System is installed outside of North America with additional exports in years to follow including the United Kingdom, China, Brazil, Thailand, Argentina, Romania, Germany, and South Africa.

2005

Private investment group acquires Micromatic from Textron.

2003

Micromatic Operations, Inc., changed name to Micromatic Inc.

2002

Micro-Precision Operations, Inc. merges with Micromatic Operations, Inc.

1989

Textron moves Bird-Johnson Hyd-ro-ac® product to Micromatic.

1986

Textron purchases Ex-Cell-O Corporation, including Micromatic.

1982

Ex-cell-o merges Rotac® (Greenville, Ohio) and Greenlee (Detroit, Michigan) product lines into the Micro-Precision® facility in Berne, Indiana.

1966

Micro-Precision® provides the Automated Piston Rod Assembly System to a major automotive manufacturing facility in Canada.

1960

Ex-Cello establishes Micro-Precision® subsidiary in Berne, Indiana, for the manufacture of honing machine tooling.

1959

Ex-Cell-O changes the Michigan Tool name to Micromatic.

1955

Michigan Tool is acquired by Ex-Cell-O Corporation.

1929

Company is founded as Michigan Tool and acquires Manistee Iron Works. The originator of the spline rolling process.
